In the early years of the 20th century, Wilkinsburg distinguished itself as the location of the first commercial radio broadcast in the world. In the early years of the 21st century, Wilkinsburg is economically depressed, acknowledged by those of means only as a place from which they can drive those of us who can barely afford to live only there, under the guise of "urban renewal".
